Why?  ›  Control and Integration

Many design professionals feel like they are losing control over the design process, and therefore control over their role in it. Some feel that independent project managers – seen as people often without design credentials – have overtaken the design process.

The reality isn’t quite that simple: A combination of three trends – a full generation of increasing risk avoidance, exponential growth of information impacting design, and consequential fragmentation of the design process itself – have created a vacuum that clients demand be filled, and many design professionals are ill prepared – and poorly resourced - to fill it.

A loss of design process Control can only be remedied by taking increasing responsibility for the Integration of design processes, which will in turn begin to restore the Freedom of design we sense is imperilled. These three are inextricably linked.
